I like to think of cars being a big container for an individual’s ego. As cyclists, we invade that container and “inconvenience” their trajectory – it’s a double whammy.
Gravel is a bit different in that I find most of the angry drivers are NIMBY folks.

there are *ways* to ensure you don’t have to deal with it
Let’s be real, it’s because most of us are out there “getting in the way” of cars as a hobby. In the US we have a right to ride on the road, but it’s not normalized in car centric US culture.
Imagine for a moment that tennis was legally allowed in the middle of the road and you randomly had to stop for people playing tennis. You’d be like “fuckin idiots with their rackets out there again”. That’s how most people see cyclists.
Before you come at me with “people commute on bikes” yeah I fuckin know that. I commuted on my bike when I had a job close enough to where I live. I’m talking about suburban US where almost no one is commuting on bikes and generally commuters are going slower and sticking to the sidewalks. Average commute times are like 30 min by car around here and 20+ miles.
Other factors:
– People are self centered
– Many cyclists fail to follow traffic laws
– Infrastructure sucks ass – The bike lane by my house is a 3 foot wide shoulder with a bike painted on it and is only there because they didn’t have enough space to make a sidewalk so it’s filled with pedestrians
– Biased sample – think of all the cars that passed by you uneventfully

Although I’ve seen countless videos of people being assholes I’ve got to say I’ve never actually experienced someone being intentionally aggressive.

I’m gonna be honest I didn’t finish the video. So the video is complaining that someone voiced a stupid brain dead opinion online? Buddy if you’re gonna let people expressing stupid braindead opinions online bother you then you’re gonna be miserable all the time

Cars reinforce people’s darkest need for absolute control and dominance.
Have you ever read “Blood Meridian” by Cormac McCarthy? At one point The Judge says, “The freedom of birds is an insult to me. I’d have them all in zoos.”
It’s basically that.

I like the headline, I like the few segments I skipped to, but there’s no way I’m listening to three minutes of video commentary for what could be summed up in 20 seconds worth of text.
