  1. If you are asking professional mechanics to answer this you are gonna have a bad time. They don’t reach for multi tools because they have a dedicated tool specific for what they need that will perform better and faster that fiddling with a miltitool. There is no design change that will fix this issue in a professional situation. The only caveats around this are multi tools that can increase speed or decrease effort. A ratchet or ratcheting screwdriver are a great examples but are not ubiquitous examples of being superior 100% of the time.

    I am not a mechanic  and even I abhore multitools. 

    The closest I have is a bit ratchet (small wera) as it allows me to not carry huge L-keys in torx and hex.. Smaller ones are all L-keys  some short, some long.

    When I used chains I had a stand-alone chain tool. I now use belts, so don’t need to carry one.
