hi all! i am looking to do my first 70.3 for completion some time next year. i haven’t don’t a tri before but have run multiple marathons and feel decent about my ability to get there with swimming and cycling. would this be a good bike for me to purchase? i was able to negotiate to 1k flat. i guess i am just wondering if there are any red flags w the pictures or listing, if this js a good price, or if i need to even bother with a carbon bike if i am not really THAT serious about this. i am obviously going to train hard and like to do as well as i can, but this will definitely be a big purchase for me financially.

So this is less of a question of worth it and more of a question of value.

I believe 1k is a fair price for what you’re getting. You are getting a ton of upgrades. It will be a good bike dor your purposes. But this bike is also a specialist – using dated technology. Rim brakes have relatively tire clearance and your customization options will be more limited. You will need to accept the bike as is.

Alternatives would be a disc brake road bike. Disc brakes allow wide tires and lower tire pressure, leading to more comfort and versatility without the loss of speed.

You’re also future proofing. By using modern standards you’ll be able to keep up with the changes in bike tech as it comes.

At 1k you should be able to find disc brakes that have 105.

With that said you have an unusual size so finding used bikes may be a challenge in itself.

What do you want in a bike?
