Looking into carry handles as I have a new saddle which isn’t great for lifting my Brompton up stairs when folded and it’s awkward for me to grab the frame itself.

Apart from thin and cheap-looking dropshipped stuff, I’ve found a Restrap one as well as a Brooks leather one, both are at a similar-ish price point (high) and I don’t mind buying either but the Restrap looks like it doesn’t have any metal whereas the Brooks one does have metal buckles. I much prefer the look of the Brooks but could the metal scratch or damage the frame at all?

Does anybody with either of these have any general thoughts/comments?

  1. Metal on metal isn’t the greatest of ideas, I think there would be some wear/marks, you could apply a clear ‘frame protector’ before attaching the handle

  2. I don’t have either of these but have been thinking about buying something like this.
Tbh, I kinda hate how they both look. I’m going to go to Michael’s and buy some leather and use my leather awl/speedy stitcher and sew a sleeve with handle directly to the frame(with super strong waxed thread). It’ll probably be cheaper.

I think sewing it so it’s permanently affixed will be stronger and look better than these two options and I agree, I’d worry about the metal scratching the frame, too. 🤔

  3. Check out the FAHRER Brompton carrying handle. I’ve had it for a couple of years and have forgotten how awkward it was without it. Similar price range/a bit cheaper, you can get it on Amazon, and I think it’s a good balance between feeling nice and being sturdy. It takes a careful effort to get the Velcro strapped on fully tight, but it hasn’t moved a millimetre since
