Bought a Checkpoint ALR3 today. I used to ride a road bike (emonda alr) like 5ish years ago.

Took it for a pretty short ride today, maybe about 5 miles through a pretty urban area. MAN IS IT FUN. To be able to ride fast and get yourself up over a curb or on the side walk when needed is a major advantage. And it’s plenty fast (may upgrade the chain ring to a 42 to get just a little more speed)

Only question- I was deciding between this and the ALR4. What ultimately landed me on this bike was a 2 month wait for another 4 to come around (June ish). I also think the color on the 3 is significantly better, tho the green is decent on the 4. But this burgundy is GORGEOUS

I have 30 days to ride around and decide. One thing to note is I don’t think it’s totally out of the question for me to fall in love with gravel cycling and actually end up upgrading to a carbon fiber model at some point

Also, my aunt is sending down my clipless pedals in the mail, so it won’t be long on these flats

I think the only thing to do on a new checkpoint is a set of new tires. The oem tires are notoriously trash.

Grab some Pirelli Gravel H or Gravelking SS tires in a ~40mm width and have fun! Welcome to the club.
