  1. Degreaser and some thick grease and it should wake back up

Highly recommend swishing the bearings around in a cup with degreaser and rolling the whole race around on a paper towel to get all the gunk off

Just make double check that the bottom bracket shell threads are good to make sure the frame isn’t cooked

  2. I think it’s almost therapeutic cleaning these. The sealed BB’s are easier, sure, but you can service these and keep going. Satisfying to get it smooth again.

  3. So long as the bearing races aren’t pitted you’re good to go in cleaning them up

New grade 25 1/4” balls are dirt cheap. I’ve got a whole bottle of them. Just saying. Ditch the cage and run that grease in real good before final adjustment.

I upgraded a bike to a sealed bb 15 years ago still ride the bike and the bb is still buttery smooth. Not worth playing with these

  6. You’re looking at the wrong part – check the races and see if theres pitting. There’s so much torque on a BB, a little pitting actually isn’t the end of the world, but that would be the better sign of whether it’s ok to send.
