Dull Sport 2 Gen 5 2025, can anyone confirm if the headset top cover the plastic piece the cables route through is cosmetic or not? Mine cracked and I have to wait 4 weeks for a repair from the LBS. They said it’s cosmetic and I can ride it, but the more I look at it it looks like the spacers would drop if it cracked and fell off during a ride.

Update: I found a different LBS that had the part in stock and working with Trek’s warranty department they are able to get it repaired tomorrow. Turns out the new store is so much better once I got there I ended up ordering tires and grips.

I believe if you have your stem bolts torqued to spec, that the stem won’t slide down the steerer tube if the spacers did fall (which, agreed, it looks like they would)

It acts a spacer in the headset bearing tension so yes I would say it is structural. In the meantime once it breaks you could probably just put a regular spacer in to tension the bearings but nothing I’ve tried myself. Look up a video of how to properly tension a headset if you don’t know how.

Depending how many kms on the bike I would get them to do headset bearings when they replace the cover because they’ll have it apart anyways.

  3. Put the bike serial # in trek website. They use to have diagrams for the bike. Then you’ll know for sure. Or have a better idea. Or call trek customer care.
