Howdy,

seatpost kept slipping when doing hard efforts despite being clamped to 9NM and using loads of carbon paste. So I pulled the post out, cleaned it and applied even more paste, retightened and tested the bond by pushing down with my body weight – the seatpost slipped again, by about 30mm and then became fully stuck. I mean really fucking stuck.

What I have tried:

Pulled out the clamping wedge and since you cant twist the seatpost, I pulled hard, really hard on it. Then mounted in workshop stand and pulled on frame, also tried heating the frame for 5min from both sides to about 50C, pulled with 2 people, still no movement. Used a rubber mallet and went around the post and also tried striking the pedals with mallet the frame in the stand – no. fucking. movement.

I had posts stuck with paste before, but all could be removed with a good pull, this one is just build different.

Really would like to skip wd40 or other oil, as the post will slip even more should I ever get it unstuck.

Any ideas? 🙁

Just take it to a shop. You’ve probably wedged the seatpost into the frame since the seatpost is tapered.

If they manage to get it out, you’ll want them to inspect for frame damage, which could honestly be likely.

I would try hitting the post down with the mallet a couple mm that has worked for me in the past

if nothing else works and you can order a new post I would cut the top off and then saw it in half carefully at the sinky ends then you should be able to cush it out
