Hey folks, looking for recommendations for the next step up from my Cannondale Topstone 2. Very newb rider and honestly just getting into it after thinking of how much more ground I can cover with my k9 compared to our hikes lol… sold my Cannondale topstone because i realized it was the wrong size for me (got a small instead of a medium). I'm 5'9" slim athletic build… looking for recommendations for the next step up from this bike. Key things that I am looking for:

  • Same or lighter weight
  • internal cable routing (it's. my OCD kicking in lol)
  • something that is more than enough for fire roads and hiking/ riding trails BUT can double duty as a road bike for some of my endurance training

any help would be much appreciated. thanks y'all

  1. Internal cable routing can mean a few different things, but you probably won’t find completely internal (as in bars and headset) on a bike you can afford. Internal frame routing is much easier to find.

Trek has a few gravel offerings that would probably be a great upgrade, plus they’re everywhere, so it would be pretty easy to find one to test ride. Same with Specialized. I ride a Diverge and love it.

Orbea makes really good gravel bikes too, but they’ll be harder to find and test.

Unrelated: is Bourbon a Belgian Malinois? Beautiful dog.
