Often, the smallest gear will get a little stuck. Try prying at the smallest gear with a flathead driver. It should only require a little bit of force.

  2. Try the small ones first. Usually, some of the larger single cogs have eaten into the spline, and it’s easier to get them off one by one, until you come to the larger combos with mulitple cogs together.

Oofta. free hubs are soft and the cassette can bite into to it. You may have to use a chain whip or two to jiggle it free

Was the locking tightened well before? If it’s loose and has any play it is more likely to bite into the free hub body.

ETa. Also I think there may be an additional thread on the hub. At least there was w my XDR. So you when you loosen the locking keep going to undo the internal thread.

  4. Thanks all for the advice! I hadn’t realised that the cassette was not a single unit. The individual cogs slid off when tackling them one at a time with a chain whip. The freehub body was definitely a little chewed
