I'm looking for my first ever road bike. I started biking last summer on my ancient toys r us mountain bike which was 1) very small and 2) i ran it into the ground going on 50km rides consistently on mainly paved surfaces and some gravel. while most people say road bikes and gravel dont work i think it should be fine…?
im trying to stay under 1K CAD or under 800USD because that's all I can budget for right now. I understand this is an expensive venture but alas.
I found this one from Costco, I dont know if its any good. I would love comments on this bike and also any recommendations for bikes if possible…ideally new since I know not much about bikes and am worried about buying used.

Check out Decathlon instead. RC 120 Disc, EDR AF Claris, GRVL AF Discovery are all below 1k CAD and significantly better than a big box store bike like that. Even if just for having a better reputation/skills to assemble the bikes properly, department store bikes are thrown together with minimal care.
The Northrock SR1 is a good bike but it’s definitely not made for gravel. This is a pure road bike and doesn’t have enough clearance to install some big tires.
