The Yamaha MT-07 is one of the most popular middleweight motorcycles, but is it really a good beginne Motorcycle?
As someone who started on a 125cc and had my fair share of close calls. I believe it’s a little bit much. But there are also arguments you can make in favor.

Nice video!
Hi bro, I am wondering, how do you motor wash your it – as there is the acoustic vent. Do you make sure water does not get in the acoustic vent?
Zeker beginner bike wat mij betreft, was er zelf alleen binnen een jaar op uitgekeken nu fijn mt09 en wat een ongekend verschil, wist niet wat ik mee maakte de eerste keren dat ik ging rijden haha.
Amazing video as usual bro!
you said everything I would say to a beginner rider
I started on a 600 and had it for a few years, but learned WAY more when i bought my wr250r. Now i am a much more confident rider than if i had just stuck with the 600. I bought an mt09 but still have the 250. Never selling it haha
Good advice. I just picked up this bike this weekend in all black. Love it. I don't consider this a beginner bike because it does things a beginner bike shouldn't. Like power wheelie lol. I've had 4 bikes prior to this and I've ridden all types of motorcycles and this is enough bike for a seasoned rider. For beginners I say go find a good deal on a secondhand smaller CC bike. (not at the dealer) Ride until you feel like you're comfortable with the controls and handling of a bike and then sell it for the same price you bought it. If your saavy you may be able to sell it for more than you bought it for.
Can you wheelie this?
I Think going with a mt07 will be a good choice for me. I alredy know how to ride a bike and want to upgrade from my 450 cc
i got the limited A35 as a learner🤔
If you're good at sports start with riding a +600cc bike. If not better look for a different hobby.
Is this the A2 version? I'm a beginner rider looking into the MT07 A2 compliant version. I've just passed my license on a 400CC Kawasaki. Any pointers or advice?
Bro, your video was cool. The only issue was it was hard to understand you. It sounded like you were talking to a speaker the audio is a little lackluster to some constructive criticism. Great video.
No, its perfect. light to learn on, enough power to get a taste, but not deadly.
wassup bro, just got this bike a week ago as my first bike. I come from riding quads so the cornering definitely needs to be worked on and the clutch control at slow maneuvers
This or a Ninja 650 as my first bike ?
Just went on one today ,from a 125cc . My first time on a bigger bike for a transition day ready for my test training tomorrow . It was amazing . I loved it , couldn't stop grinning from ear to ear . Took a moment to get used to the clutch which was much heavier than the one my 125 as were the gear shifts but I think that's possibly normal relative to a 125 . But I felt as if I was on a real machine . The power was fantastic .
what about Y-AMT version would that be okay as an beginner one?
Quick question, can you connect your phone to the tft screen? To show navigation at least?
I've been thinking about getting the A2 restricted MT-07. I passed my A2 exams quite recently. I actually did 1/3 of the lessons on an MT-125, and did the rest on a 35kw MT-07, and passed on first attempt without ever dropping the MT-07. But I still have a dilemma about choosing the MT-03 or the restricted MT-07, as I never sat on the 03. If you're reading this Yachiri, what are your thoughts?
coming from an 8 year dirt bike background would that be a good first street bike?
My first bike is an MT07. I took a weekend safety course (Noobs DO THIS. You want to ride well, stay alive and ride for years!) that was all 125s and 250s. But I knew I wasn't going to buy a 300CC bike. I wanted something that had power that I could grow into slowly. I went with the MT07 for budget reasons. But an MT09 on low power mode was a consideration. Aside from a single momentary whisky throttle that I killed fast with the clutch, everything was fine. I was practicing my rev matching downshifts a lot that day, and accidently revved as I UPshifted. But overall I took things slow and steady, always rode within my limits, I'm happy I got it as my first bike.
I don't understand those arguments from an European guy. I'm pretty sure you need to have at least an A2 license to drive an MT-07 in the Netherlands, which means you have to pass the license where you are taught everything you mentioned (throttle and clutch control, trajectories, emergency braking, maneuvering at low speed, etc…).
On top of that, nowadays a majority of driving schools (at least in France) are using the MT-07 as a learning bike, which points towards the fact that this is a good beginner bike.
Just got mine yesterday and it’s my first real bike i started with a dual sport and this is a huge difference I love it though
Is it safe to go from riding yamaha x max 300 for 3 years to this?
Nice review / summary. Got one of these 6 months ago. First motorbike after 20 years on Vespas. (Even though having an open licence which allows to ride a moto I did a 2-hr private lesson and a half day P plate course to learn the basics of riding and gears. Was a big jump from the 125cc course bike to this 😅). Realise now could have bought the unrestricted MT-07 and tuned it down, to have room to move in the future. But for now it's an awesome bike and can maybe 'chip it' in future when want to advance
Respectfully disagree. Got the derestricted 2015 no ABS MT07 as a first bike ever two years ago🙂 No problem at all. The 2025 must be even more noob friendly thanks to the riding modes and TCS🤷♂
I see, you have 999 subscribers, let me make it 1000.
i really appreciate this video. i fell in love with how the mt line feels when i sit on them. but I'm a brand new rider and was deciding between the mt03 and mt07. I will be choosing the mt03 :3
I killed my mt03. Cracked the frame man.
Mt07 ftw?
Spent three years on that beauty till I hit a big chunk of cement some jackass truck dropped in the road!
I pulled the front wheel up as hard as I vould and evil kineveled my way out, never dropped the bike on that one.

Mt07
I'm 5ft 7in. Can I handle this bike?
i started on a ducati 999 with a 1/4 turn domino throttle. don't be retarded, and you won't die, simple as.
My wifey and me bought an mt07 each for our wedding anniversary 2 years ago. We live in Australia and have done numerous trips of thousands of kilometres at a time. We love our bikes so much. Perfect power, so rideable and something not me people bring up is the awesome fuel range. Way more than the 09 and 10. I couldnt be happier with our bikes. Mine has jst clocked 50 000kms and not one issue thus far
I bought this exact bike for my first bike and did it because they have the drive modes to limit the throttle. I hope this was no mistake after watching this video. Just gotta be gentle on that gas. 😮
A beginner (or a trainee in a driving school) got little or no skills and need a bike with smooth throttle response, which this bike doesnt have. For a beginner, it has two settings, ON and OFF which is terrible. Alot of driving schools (at least in my country) use these. I had big issues with this bike while learning to ride and requested a 4 cylinder after 2 sessions. Was a game changer. Experienced riders will have no issues with this one because they have a feel for the throttle but a guy who never sat on a bike before will get easily suprised and scared, ending up in a wall or tree.
700cc is not for beginners. Its incredibly fast.
My first bike was 1st gen SV650 and it was quite scarry. Than two off my friends died, one in front off my eyes in quite low speed accident that didnt even look bad at first and i got scared and stopped riding, another one had horrible crash with jaywalker and they both died, that was 20 years ago.. Last 5,6 years i only ride scooters, Honda sh300i now but i am starting to want real bike again. I will probably buy Honda 500f and i think anything more powerfull makes no sense unless i want big travel bike… You must be 2,3 steps ahead all the time and that comes with experience. Where i live most off mt07 riders are total noobs but at least they drive slow and they are more aware then when i was young when most off us where total idiots..
A bike that does wheelies on throttle? yea I'll stick to MT03 as my 1st buy 🤣
I worked for one of the biggest motorcycle dealerships in America. This is the most common bike beginners buy bc people on YouTube say it’s a beginner bike and then they end up crashing it leaving the store. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen that with this bike. Start on a ninja 500 instead.
i bought a 390 Adventure for my A2 license. first test ride after getting it was overwhelming. if you are used to 11hp from a 125cc and get to experience 4x the power, thats crazy. in summer i got my A license and bought a GSX1250 fairly cheap. and damn.. that thing is crazy.. even with "only" 98hp. i would no one recommend this as a first bike.. even 48hp felt sometimes scary. a friend asked me about my opinion and recommendation for his first bike ever (with A licencse). he laughed at me, when i said that he should buy a bike and limit this to 48 hp. its more than enough power for learning. even with 48hp you are one of the fastest on the road most time.
lets not talk about the money part right, so we don't live the same way okay, we outside europe go through so much depending on the country lemme clear it up for u, for instance here in my country an mt07 is going for 10000 dollar compared to other 300 to 500cc bikes, there is a small different in price when it comes to buying it new, so are u telling me my ego is the one stopping me from paying nearly double the price of an mt07 just to get it later, at least be reasonable and don't generalize
My 1st bike, MT-09. Still have it almost 5 years later and started riding at 50 y.o. For me it was a perfect bike and never regretted it. I wish it didn't have the ride by wire. So maybe the MT-07 would have been a better choice.
yow im turning 21 this year, i am thinking of getting this one as my first bike, i just like the design and i want it for chill rides because the “sports” looking bikes looks uncomfortable to sit on during long rides and also i don’t wanna rely on buses anymore. before that though ill have to practice for my grandparents motorcycles first before getting this one
A question bro when you had the first day new did you smell oil burning or am i just burning the clutch ?
