Episode 8 – Cycling from Belgium to Croatia

82 hot kilometres from Löwenstein to Mögglingen, deep into the Naturpark Schwäbisch-Fränkischer Wald. We forget to fill our bottles in the middle of a heatwave, ride past a cycling race we’re technically “competing” in the wrong direction, skip a village festival, long for wedding cake we never get, and end up dining on Spätzle behind a cornfield instead.

My Graves‑affected heart does its best impression of a drum solo, a small Turkish blue talisman bounces on my wrist, cows watch us drink their chocolate milk with quiet pride, and a cloud of mating flies stages its own tiny wedding above our heads. No podiums, no hotel room — just two bikes, one dodgy thyroid, a lot of gravel, and the Alps and Dolomites slowly rising from dream to horizon.
