The grip is probably terrible because the teeth on the BB are worn, or have gunk on them.
If I’m removing that to replace it, I would use a flathead screwdriver and a hammer on the teeth.

Hereโs the secret with a t47. ย Leave it in there, and just replace the bearings. ย Tap them out, press new ones in, never mess up. ย But you can also use a threaded rod with washers to hold the tool on

I always used the wrench style ones. I think ours was Shimano. Rubber mallet on the other end. I feel like they always come out like shit.

I’ve put one T47 in and couldn’t believe how little surface area there was for grip, especially when trying to torque it down. It kept slipping off and I had the park tool.
I recently saw this, which looks like it would help greatly. The park tool has threads for it, not sure if other T47 tools do? I thought I could also buy the threaded rod and washers/springs at Lowes for a fraction of the cost. Before I put a wrench on another T47 BB, I will have some form of this.
