Hi everyone, I've got analysis paralysis over choosing a rain jacket. I live in the UK and we can have some horrible downpours, without much wind, but my cape isn't doing enough to keep me waterproof. Out of these from Mountain Warehouse I've ordered these 3 jackets, all at a similar price, but I can't decide which to go with:

Phase Extreme
https://www.mountainwarehouse.com/p/050764/mw/phase-extreme-mens-waterproof-ski-jacket/

Leo
https://www.mountainwarehouse.com/p/056319/mw/leo-mens-extreme-waterproof-ski-jacket/

Intergalactic

Amazon's AI says the jackets are windproof, although it doesn't say that on the Mountain Warehouse website. If it really doesn't matter then I guess I'll get the Phase or the Leo, as they're brighter colours and could be noticed better during bad weather?

  1. You will probably be very very warm in these jackets unless you’re commuting in below freezing temperatures.

I wear a Columbia rain jacket shell and layer a merino wool base layer and Under armor long sleeve.

That keeps me dry on my wet commutes just outside of Vancouver BC.

  2. Yeah, ski jackets are going to be way too warm. Get a Goretex shell jacket and a good merino mid layer (and ideally some good base layer options).

  3. I bought an altura one this year, think it’s called night vision, was about £50 and it’s perfect. I also have a really small packable decathlon running jacket for putting in my bag or pocket in summer.

i’d suggest going by manufacturer’s spec rather than ai

i’d also suggest you look at a lighter rain shell (patagonia, shower’s pass, etc.) and layer
