I've had my Kryptonite lock mounted to my bike like this for a wee while using the strap mount that comes in the box. It's been long enough now, why don't I see more locks mounted like this? It allows for a front rack, and is completely out of the way of my bottle cages and any other accessories I might want to attach. I suppose just not seeing others doing this is starting to make me wonder.

Pretty clever, as long as the lock can’t rotate into the wheel that seems legit to me.

  2. That’s fine. The only potential problems that come to mind are that the steering will be slightly weighted on one side. Also, if the lock bracket happens to turn a bit, the lock may go into your front wheel, which could equal death.
It’s probably a bit more manageable to have on the frame, so most lock brackets fit frame tubes and not fork tubes.

  3. Affects steering, can swing into the wheel, easy to knock out of alignment. Almost everything wrong. Mount it flat against the non-drive chainstay.

  4. If it’s a steel fork, and you’re not deforming it, it’s probably fine.

I know that the chances are very slim, but if the curve of the u-lock goes into your spokes, it’d be catastrophic. If I were to mount it to the fork, I’d orient the mount to that the lock is in front of the fork…that way, the spokes will push it away instead of catching it.

I wouldn’t want 5lb of weight strapped to one side of my fork. Yuck. That’s why I wouldn’t do it.

Front rack/basket with lock mount for the win. I don’t like seeing the lock so close to the wheel, feels like even if you attached it super well, one bad bush/stick/anything could knock it in an inopportune place. But idk, I do unsafe things all the time, you do you!
