I saw a review from BIKEPACKING.com for the Relentless Mule Rear Rack. A rack like this really interests me – seemingly very durable with endless mounting possibilities. I love the idea of being able to tie/strap/zip on to a rack in any configuration I want. The build quality seems higher than any other thin-armed back rack and I feel like I'd never worry about loosening or shaking on a long trek.

I can only find the single review from bikepacking.com and nothing else on the internet… for ~$250, I'd really like to know if the rack works for anybody else (or if anybody has found something else that does the same thing for them!).

I was wondering if anybody has had any actual hands-on experience with this rack and can speak to it? I am worried I'm being persuaded by a single, likely-sponsored, ad.

There's a huge con to this rack that it doesn't accept standard hook-style panniers… but I feel like I could rig something up to make that work if I ended up pulling the trigger on this.

I've recently been dreaming about doing longer and longer bikepacking trips and upgrading my setup is a necessary evil. Thank you all for all of the inspiration you've given me in this forum!

‘I am worried I’m being persuaded by a single, likely-sponsored, ad.’

And now I’m worried that this is the same.
Did you write the editors of bikepacking.com or read their policy on reviews / sponsorship?

If you feel like ‘I can make it work’ why not just buy a rack that works with your gear? Why all the hand wringing?

It’s a cool idea, and you’d impress any overlanding people you encounter for sure.

Not being normal pannier compatible for rack of this size and beef is a big drawback.

I’d also not discount steel “thin armed” racks. Steel tubing is more than adequate and proven.

Short story, no first hand knowledge. It looks very solid.. just depends if the hyper modular platform is really what you want.

I’ve been thinking about this rack a lot, ever since I watched the aforementioned review. And wondered whether there is a way to fit panniers, after all. I might have found a workaround and would appreciate your opinion, folks:

What if we were to fit the Ortlieb Fork Pack panniers onto that rack? The rack has the right mounts. I have no way of measuring or estimating this, but maybe there will be enough space left to fit an additional bottle holder on each side, too? Talking about these mini panniers here: https://de.ortlieb.com/en/products/fork-pack?variant=49067060527436
