I’ve had the same issue twice in a row with two tyres of the same model (Conti Contact Urban).

I’m not sure I’ll buy them again, which is a shame because aside from that major issue, they’re actually very good tyres.

You should expect a decent amount of life out of them, but that obviously depends on what usage they’ve had. As consumables I’d suggest a year is a low but just about acceptable amount of lifespan for very well used tyres (ie. daily, poor road surfaces, significant distances). If I had a weekend bike that was garaged a year would be far less than acceptable.

  3. Useless tyres. 3 out of 4 (edit: foldable variant) I had failed from sidewall issues that were not caused by any abrasion, cut or impact. Never again.

Get schwalbe marathon plus and stop worrying about tires. They are not the lightest, but you can ride on glass shrapnel and laugh your way home. I went through one set of tires per year before the purchase. Been running the same set for years now.

I worked at a bike shop that sold Brompton and in my experience you have to pump the tires al lot more often compared to other bikes since they’re so small and lose pressure faster. If you ride them on too little pressure the sidewalls tend to fail rather quickly even when running schwalbe marathons. Id recommend pumping the tires every week it will ride better as well.

  6. These tires have weak sidewalls. You need to keep them pumped according to specs before use. Also brompton smaller tires are more prone to losing air so you should be checking them often. I use the same and haven’t had any issues.

I’ve switched to the Panaracer agilist and they’ve been very good so far. Super light and supple.

  8. No. That’s generally down to riding habits. Eg into a curb or pothole without shifting weight. Ensure your tyres are at the recommended pressure.

  9. Schwalbe racers where like that for me, switched to Schwalbe marathons greens and zero puncture or side wall stresses.

  10. That looks like actual damage, eg hitting rock, not normal wear and tear.

Consumable parts like tyres, brake pads etc are not covered by the warranty.
