The issue is that the bolts in the rear rack are broken off inside the threaded holes on the bike frame. Basically, the screws snapped, and now they’re stuck in the threads. I need to see if there’s a way to remove them and reattach the rack properly. This happened while I was in France in the middle of nowhere, but I eventually managed to put the bolts in the hole a little higher up that also broke but once I was home. They are only broken/filled on one side of the bike.

I’ve already tried to get some help from their local bikeshop and even brang drill bits, and we managed to drill a hole inside one bolt but couldn’t get it out with his drill.

  1. I’d be trying reverse drill bits first many times they’d pull them out as I was drilling in

-my first attempt is to make a divot not on the center with a sharp center punch (not a spring loaded one) and then hammer it out in a circle
most the time this works faster than any drill/easy out set.
second I use left handed drill bit. some times just backs them out just drilling the hole.
then I use a extractor set in that hole and try to screw it out .
-tif all that fails (rare)drill it out completely #19 drill bit and tap it 5mm
if that is no good I will drill it with a 13/64 and tap it to 6mm.

I suggest grade 12.9 button head screws from the inside and install the rack with a jam nut + acorn nuts on the outside this keeps things tight forever.
