Guardian Bikes asking Trump administration for a 50% tariff on bikes made overseas
From my reading, it's a 50% tariff on steel and aluminum for all bikes, not just kids' bikes (which would already be bad enough). On top of existing tariffs.
Guy who only makes bikes for kids wants to make every bicycle more expensive.
Who wants to bet that if all imported bikes had a 50% tariff they guy would still raise his prices by like 30%

It’s nice to buy a bike that’s completely made locally/domestically… but it’s also a luxury. Most families can’t afford a $400 children’s bike and this guy wants to punish those families.
Let’s be real for a second, the ability to buy a Chinese made imported bike from Walmart for under $100 it’s a blessing, not a bad thing. Market segmentation is a good thing, Guardian, bikes is a premium good. I’m glad they exist, but fuck these stupid tariffs and this guy‘s attitude.
I am all for protecting domestic production in cases where it’s tied to national security, to a lesser extent when it guarantees jobs (most of what this guy is doing is automated). A side benefit of creating those jobs is having a skilled workforce capable of doing other things which is a net positive.. but sometimes economies of scale plays a role too, and bicycle production is an example of that.

I’m no expert by any means also not touching the tariff part could you not just teach a kid to use the back brake??
Part of learning how things work is using them, bikes included. You have your front brake and your back brake, use them accordingly and make sure they work.

Dangerous.
People like this guy are opportunistic sociopaths, and therefore clearly incapable of feeling shame. They are chameleons who will alter their views based on whoever the sitting president is, not the political party per se. That is: their allegiance lies with whoever gives them what they want. No different than when billionaires like Bezos, Zuckerberg, etc suddenly started attending Trump’s dinners.
