Those old bikes look solid. My dad still rides his 90s hardtail and it handles most trails better than some new cheap ones. A good clean and new tires will make them feel fresh again

Rare is a stretch. But they were nice in their day and they don’t appear to have weird stuff that would make it hard to find parts.
You could try new saddles, brake pads, tires and rigid forks. This kind of bike can be a really solid basis for something you ride on the street or bike paths. Mountain biking too, though contemporary mountain bikes are quite a lot better.
