Hey! I have mostly messed around with modern bikes, and I recently bought an old school Bianchi racer with campagnolo parts. I took everything off the frame to learn how to work with this type of bike, and to clean everything properly. But after I had taken everything apart, I found this little piece on the floor and I have no idea what it is, where it comes from or how it got there😅

It looks like a tiny solid cylinder. Like 7mm long and almost 4mm diameter.

Does anybody recognize this part and where it needs to go?

I put photos of the bike components as well – maybe that will help narrow it down!

Appreciate your help!

  1. Looks like a chain bolt to me.

Inspect the chain if there is a hole in it where it should not be.

Mounting a new chain is always a good idea to prevent to change the whole drivetrain.

Nice Bianchi btw. I would try to replace the crankset with an appropriate Campagnolo one and replace all cables and housings by new ones.

Is it the quick release pin for the brakes, located on the brake lever?

(Such great design compared to Shimano, you could open your brakes and still retain full brake force)
