Im coming from a Merida Scultura 300 2018 with rim brakes, full alloy frame/wheels, and 10 speed tiagra 4700 so either way it is gonna be an upgrade. But i wanted to know if it is worth it spending like 800 euros into di2 instead of mechanical, from what i see it, i hate the fact of having to charge my bike, however if it is a game changer i’m open to get that. I also like the handlebar cable free thing of the di2. And the third image is about the teal color (ik colors are a merely personal choice) but i wanted to know if there’s any big advantage/reason to go for teal over white (or vice versa) sorry for the dumb questions, since im new to canyon and im changing my beginner bike for a better one.     Taste Di2, never back to mech. For 800e, if u can paid them u won’t regret.

    unless you really care about the money, Di2, I got a Di2 and I will never go back to mechanical, it is perfect. The only downside is forgetting about charging it, the battery last a lot, but every now and then I go to pick up the bike and I have to spend 30 mins charging.

  3. The charge “issue” is overblown. The charge lasts for months. If you ride with a computer you can see the charge. There’s a visual cue to charge on the back derailleur. If you get the Shimano app (and you will for indexing and programming of shift functions) you can connect and see the charge. It’s not a biggie.

  4. Maybe I’m an outcast here, but I own bikes with both mechanical and electronic shifting, and on a road bike the electronic doesn’t add anything for me. Modern mechanical drivetrains shift with the smallest bit of effort and require very very little in the way of maintenance. DI2 is probably a big improvement over 20-year-old mechanical, but it’s just not revolutionary compared to current mechanical. I’d spend that money on quality tires and good kit/shoes.

    On a tri bike, electronic shifting is a game-changer, because it allows you to shift from both riding positions.

    Di2! Though I had a faulty battery when the bike arrived but it was replaced by my LBS within a day and they took care of shimano, warranty, and everything. In 1,5 years a front derailleur died, again, just took it to a lbs, they contacted shimano and gave me a brand new FD under warranty. I’m in the US and the mileage is 11000 km when the fd motor started failing

  6. As I own both a mechanical and an electronic shifting bike, I can only say go for Di2.
    I feel like Fred Flintstone in his car when I ride the mechanical one after a few months on the Di2.

  7. Unpopular opinion, but I don’t like Di2 and regret it.

    If I could get mechanical Dura Ace, I would swap it.

    I just bought the Endurace CF7 with SRAM Rival AXS. It’s not the Ultimate, but if you’re not doing any racing, the Endurace model will probably be more comfortable for longer rides. It costs the same as the Ultimate with mechanical shifting you posted. (€2699, I bought it on sale a month ago for €2499)

    My previous bike was a 2014 aluminium Canyon Roadlite, so for me it was an ever bigger jump haha. Was a bit sceptical about the electronic shifting, but it’s exactly as everyone said: once you’ve had electronic shifting, you don’t want mechanical anymore… It’s faster, quieter, easier, … you don’t NEED it, but it’s just way nicer to use.

    The 800€ upgrade does not only include the Di2 but also the adjustable cockpit. Therefore I went with the Di2 version and would do it again anytime!

    I bought the CF7 mechanical at that price point and really wish I had splurged and got Di2, so I would recommend you buy once and cry once and then never go back to mechanical!

    Going from mechanical to di2 is definitely not a necessity. If you are happy with your current gears it’s all good. It depends a bit on what you want? Would you rather have electronic gears or save a bit of money? 

    Going from electronic to mechanical is a different story… you would probably feel like taking a step back. 

  14. Charging? I have to charge both derailleurs, both lights, computer, my pedals. I need to keep an eye on HRM battery and batteries in each shifter.

    Oh, and first ride of the season means firmware updates on pedals, computer, radar, both shifters, both derailleurs…. I’m sure I’m missing something.

    No complaint, this is how I want it. But it’s certainly a new world.

  15. Di2, buy once cry once. Even if you save now the 800€ you are going to want the di2 later on, trust me

  16. Di2 will pay for itself given the less amount of maintenance needed and how much stuff you can do yourself with it. Also the form factor on di2 makes it much more comfy on the hands.

  17. I bought my first di2 two years ago and would never go back. It is precise and reliable. I barely charge it. It just works. Go for it if you can afford it.
