    I don’t think that’s right. The loading forces at the base of the stem in pic 3 are good- evenly distributed.

    With the Zipp stem, there’s no ‘rear’ covering the top of the spacers. When preload is added, it’s going to bear harder to front than to back.

    To me, this looks like a situation where the proprietary stem style needs to be used.

    I swapped back. I couldn’t deal with the ugliness.

    A shorter stem was recommended by my bike shop so i thought id try it out. Thanks everyone for their help.
