  1. Thanks for all the replies- Tin foil will be tried this weekend. Might have some brass if I can find some. But Coke and Tinfoil sounds like a home run. I will try and report back!

  2. Polish it with Mother’s polish and a microfiber cloth. It’ll shine up what’s left better than the foil etc. it is corroded and pitted, there’s no getting rid of that without replating, but mothers will help.

  3. Collinite metal wax (west marine or online) and a blue scratch free scotch brite pad.

    Collinite insulator wax after

EDIT: do the foil first then do this!

  4. As someone also mentioned. Ketschup.

Ketchup is an effective, accessible DIY method for removing surface rust from bike chrome due to its acidic content, which dissolves oxidation. Apply ketchup to rusty areas, let it sit for 10–45 minutes, then scrub with aluminum foil for best results.

Using ketchup on a bike chain is a, albeit unconventional, effective method for removing rust due to the acid content in tomatoes. The vinegar and citric acid in ketchup work to dissolve corrosion on metal surfaces.

  5. Many things work. Ive used chrome polish and neverdull. Both have worked for me. Some people used to use clr. Personally i would stay away from steel wool but if gentle enough that probably can work too but i wpuldnt

  6. pdxcuttybandit on

i restored vintage porsches and used fine steel wool and wd40. easiest and most effective way to do it. saved many bumpers and trim pieces that way. works great on any chrome or glass.
