Motorcycle theft in the UK is getting out of control… and it’s something every rider should be thinking about.
In this video, we head over to Matlock Bath, one of the biggest biker hubs in the UK, to see if riders are actually concerned about their bike security — or if people are becoming too relaxed.
With thieves now using battery-powered angle grinders, even good locks can be defeated in seconds. So the question is… are bikers doing enough to protect their motorcycles?
We speak to real riders and share real stories from recent thefts, showing just how serious the situation has become.
I also speak to someone who works within the prison service to find out — are prisons actually a deterrent, or are criminals not as worried as we think?
On top of that, I take a ride with a local motorcycle instructor to hear what it’s really like on the roads today, and whether more people are turning to bikes as a way to get around.
And to show the reality of what riders are up against, we demonstrate how vulnerable motorcycle security can be using common tools — highlighting why proper security is more important than ever.
This isn’t just about losing a bike… for many riders, especially those on 125s, it’s their only way of getting to work — and with insurance prices already sky high, one theft can have a massive impact.

👉 Is the system failing us?

  1. Great video both. Keep up the good work. In this day and age it’s important to highlight this issue especially in the last few years as the demographic of the countries population changes then add the cost of living crisis. Important and critical messages here even if they are controversial in some cases.

Trackers and locks are so important but also remember if these guys have got vans and muscle 💪 this will have a limited effect. They’ll just move the bike to a temporary location to find the tracker then remove the lock later as in my mates case. The police did get involved and locally they were excellent in his case helping a great deal and they knew who they were likely to be and recovered the bikes due mostly down to the tracker.

Good work both for bringing this issue to the notice of the riding public at large again.

  2. Simon a big thanks for this , we could do with some more on this to help riders to understand we not paying a couple of hundred pounds its thousands , more ideas please thanks. 😅😅

  3. Insurance is a scam.
I have my bike insured as "not locked" but always lock it up with two locks. It only cost a few more quid but means if for whatever reason it wasn't locked, they'd still have to pay out.

  4. thieving little bastards are the cause of all our insurance premiums going through the roof, if i catch 1 stealing my bike fingers and wrists will be broken. be warned.

  5. Great vlog Simon. I didn't know it was so bad in my town. I know the young chap who was almost hijacked as he works at my place. I would not hesitate to fight back if it happened to me. Amazed to see so many bikes at Matlock Bath on a Wednesday!! I use a disc lock and a tracker too. Catch you out one day. Take care both.

  6. Bollox no respect for the police what so ever. they knock youth,s off stolen bikes using their vehicles, risking life and limb but won,t pull a muslim off a horse that is chasing people down a road.

  7. Hi both, after watching this episode, I've now just order the LiteLok x3! (and used your code👍) just to make it that bit harder for the buggers.

  8. Had my bike stolen in June 2025. Police provided crime reference number but never followed up with a call – until two weeks ago (March 2026) when they asked if I wanted to make a statement. Then only because they thought they knew who the culprits were.

  9. if your law abiding in manchester police do nothing to help you but if your a knon crinal police will let you off complain to the police complants commite and they dont bother getting back to you i hope the gmp police read this and get back to but they wont

  10. Whilst the X3 and the X1 (I own both by the way) they are very secure locks. They're so secure that the locking mechanism seizes up on them. I would expect better from paying over £100 for a lock up to £250 even more so.

  11. Thats the thing, the police are not doing bugger all, so then people are having to take it into thier own hands.

The only thing these types understand is violence, but if you do that you're getting locked up.

At some point things are going to come to a head and someone will be seriously hurt or worse. For trying to defend his stuff, and its only then that the law will change.

  12. I didn’t know you had a website, the events page is really cool! It’s a bit hard to find things on there though as you have to click on every individual event to see where it is so would maybe be better to also include just a list of them all somewhere? Nice work anyway!!

  13. I can’t see anything getting any better until we get a change of government. Especially in London you can see the criminals just operating in broad daylight and police don’t do anything. If you take the law into your own hands and defend yourself you’ll be facing consequences 10 times worse than whatever the criminals ever would. 🤷‍♂️

  14. I have a 25 year old moped that I got in August 2025. My moped was targeted in an attempted theft in December but the theives failed as I had a very sensitive motion sensor alarm, brake/throttle lock and a heavy duty chain lock for my front wheel as well as with it being winter, I also removed the battery. Currently saving up money to go for the Litelocks and a tracker. I do also everytime I am on my bike, carry with me a criminal identifier spray so I can tag any theives if one was to ever attempt to steal my ped whilst I am on it.

  15. Wrap your chain through the front wheel and over the top of the bike, preferably around the top yoke, tightly, so it can't be slipped over. Thieves need the chain to be lying on concrete to get the purchase necessary for an angle grinder to work effectively.

  16. Where i live motorbike theft is crazy thats why i sold my bike and brought an electric scooter instead coz i can bring it in my home i can't leave a bike in the solo parking

  17. Leicester is crazy for bike thefts, riders get attacked while riding fairly frequently.. Even with a tracker on the police will tell you their to busy and just give you a ref number, and if you inform them you'll go and get the bike yourself with friends, from the tracked address, they then threaten to arrest you…..

  18. I think lock need to be tested against more than a angle grinder people seay thats all the use but what if they have broken into a cavan and got hold of specialist metal cutting tools

  19. My partner got a quote of £400-£450 a month and a £600 deposit for her YZF 125 2018 . Only two insurance companies would even entertain the idea; it's disgusting.

  20. I bought a Litelok X3 for my 2009 H-D XR1200, I feel it was well worth the £250 cost of the Litelok to keep my motorcycle safe. My previous garage was broken into, the thieves broke a hole through the corrugated asbestos roof, what sort of idiot disturbs asbestos? The hole was too small for an adult to get through, so it must have been kids. They took everything that was small enough to get through the hole, I had five locks on the garage door, that is why they went through the roof.

  21. 350? for a 125? I had my lexmoto venom 125 i payed 32pounds now with an offense 47 pounds. Now i passed my A2 im paying 203 a month coz its a 300 honda cbr well ofc with mods etc far enough offense goes off next yearr and my price a month will go down to 120 a month Insurance is crazy.

  22. @thatbikersimon ive had 2 bikes stolen 1 less then 9 months ago and i live less then an hour from you, nobody cared police or insurance i never got any payout on either bike
