Just got this HED tri-spoke, and would like to know if it sounds fine

The wheel spins true and seems to be in good condition (I did a tap test with a coin all over it, and it sounds just fine; it also looks almost unused)

Since the sounds are so syncopated and constant I believe it's not something to be worried about, but I just wanted to be sure

is this sound normal?

  1. I don’t know about this particular wheel, but for me this sound is alarming. May be the bearings, had similar sounds with the “normal wheel” Does this sound change when you lean to one side?

Do you not feel wheel hop in the front? Looks like it’s bouncing all over the place? Looks like the rim is simply rubbing the brake or tire.

Make SURE you have the front wheel aligned down the center of the dropouts as well.

just a guess – is this the valve stem tapping against the valve hole in the rim? any play between the valve and the hole cutout?

As someone who had one of these when they weren’t old no that doesn’t sound right at all.

Did you check if the wheel is actually a circle. Since there aren’t traditional spokes you can dent this hitting a pothole and it would still be rideable but you may have a flat spot on the rim.

The spokes can make some funky sounds but nothing like that. The bearing are a good spot to look also but I would expect you would see that in some brake drag. If I remember they are very easy to take the bearings out of so it should be easy to see.

  5. There appears to be something on the wheel banging on your brake. I can’t be sure but it looks like your valve stem area. Spin the wheel and see if it does it.

    This looks like Brazil. SP?
