I'm new to biking, and want to get a Hybrid type for personal use and commute sometimes within the city of Manila, Philippines. The city…. does not have great roads and long story short, from local recommendations they said I should go for a flatbar hybrid (light + beginner friendly, decent wheels).

Now since I'm a beginner and want to start simple, with a small budget – thankfully Japanese bike surplus stores are common. So I asked around and the seller sent over these bike photos – although with barely any supplemental information.

TLDR / Ask: Are these good hybrid bikes? He claims they're Giant "Escape" bikes (as is literally written on the photo) but how can I tell? And if other parts are good?

  1. Other than the Marin they’re all Giant Escapes. You’re going to have to go try them out to find the ones that fit you best size wise.

Other than that, look at the shape of the components to make sure everything is in good shape. Basically take them for a test ride and run through all the gears to make sure they shift smoothly and try the brakes to make sure they brake smoothly. No one on the internet will be able to do that for you, you have to try them out yourself.

Generally just make sure they are in good shape, the components work and there is little to no rust.

    Good luck!
