  1. Check out the Restrap Switch Rack. Just bought one and have been very happy. Comes with the thru axle and you can buy a cage to add a dry bag ontop (or even a specific bag for the top as well)

  2. I got it but returned it after holding the box in my hand and thinking about it for a day.

I use my bike for commute during the day and a fast ride in the afternoon/ evening.

Unfortunately, the rack doesn’t have a quick release with the axle mount, unlike Ortlieb or Tailfin. Taking them off takes seconds, with this, you need to undo screws. Which obviously doesn’t take that much longer but still.

Rack itself looks sturdy enough, and I really like how you have the ability to move the platform away from the seatpost. That’s the one thing I don’t like with Ortlieb. I bought the 16L Dry-Pack to emulate a Tailfin but since the platform can’t be moved horizontally, I found that it’s really cumbersome to use the Dry-Pack, since one-third of it ends up under the saddle, which still leaves a significant bit to dangle precariously behind the rear wheel.

Honestly, it seems like if you truly want a system that can clear the saddle and has a quick release, there’s no way around Tailfin. A bit unfortunate because they know it and charge a hefty bunch.

Oh and if you do get the Topeak and have a bike with UDH, get the UDH version of the axle. Do not assume that the 1mm thread pitch version works as Ortlieb does, the stud the rack rests on doesn’t clear the UDH bolt hole.

The version with the platform has 10mm round pannier rails, so there’s no need to get the extra pannier rails below if you don’t need them.
