Last night I spent some time cleaning out the old sealant from my rims and tires to get my bike ready for this season. After I re-installed my rear tire and aired it up I could hear a loud hissing. There is air leaking from the middle of the sidewall. Not where the bead meets the rim but where the seam is.
This is a brand new tire that came with my new bike that I only rode once last year. I don't think new sealant would be able to fix this nor should I trust it since it's the sidewall.
is this a defect? Appreciate the comments.

pretty common, use more sealant.
As u/SoLetsReddit said, this is completely normal. Keep it topped up with air and shake the sealant around every now and then. Some tires can take days before they seal up properly.
More sealant. Carry on.
Release the pressure, grab the tire like a stearing wheel. Wiggle it back and forth all the way around. Pump it above the desired pressure, repeat. It should pop the bead into place and seal it up. Mine hold air even without sealant. I use fine side cutters to remove the rubber “hairs” from the bead of the tire for an even better contact.
It’s fine. More goo.
