Our officers took part in a charity bike ride this week, covering the distance of a flight from Birmingham to Cancun.

As the TUI flight to Cancun took off, so did our officers and staff who joined Birmingham Airport and a host of others to raise money for Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

The team called themselves ‘Fin’s Flyers’ in honour of a colleague’s son who is currently fighting leukaemia and being treated at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

Our officers, who gave up their rest day to take part, covered 4800 miles and beat their fundraising target of £2,000. Together with everyone involved in the ‘Race the Plane’ event more than £80,000 was raised.

Chief Inspector Dan Lowe, from West Midlands Police: “I’m very proud of the team for giving up their rest day for a fantastic cause.

“They work hard to prevent crime and protect the public as they pass through Birmingham Airport and the surrounding areas.

“The team are like a family and it’s heartwarming that they have come together to support Fin and Birmingham Children’s Hospital.”
