Wheel locked up for some reason on a long downhill and I got thrown off the bike around 40km/h. I was riding on gravel/dirt roads. My assumption based on what I can see is the through axel disconnected and the brake rotor popped out of the brake and wedged there, locking the wheel and causing the crash. Or maybe a rock got kicked in there somewhere?

Rotor is bent, brake is scratched, and there is visible damage to the bottom of the fork including chips out of the carbon.

Am I boned? I ordered a replacement rotor already. Am I going to need a new fork and front brake?

  1. I wouldn’t ride that fork personally. Brake just looks cosmetic from the photo

If you didn’t get too hurt I’d count yourself as very lucky.

It sounds like you didn’t torque down the through axle and it came completely undone eventually.

I wouldn’t ride that fork again. Maybe get it inspected by a carbon fiber specialist but it’s probably toast.

Looks like your axle came loose and your wheel tried to fall out of the dropout. Fork is toast, rotor is toast (duh), caliper probably should be replaced (although it might be okay?) , front wheel might be done too or at least need some work in a truing stand

Pretty serious crash, if you’re going to pay a shop to fix it the cost may be more than the bikes value. Possibly salvageable if you’re doing the work yourself though to save on labor. Bummer dude hope you’re alright.
