I got to Hulda Crooks just before 6am today knowing everyone and their mommas would be out early during this heat wave. It was dark still, but the parking lot was half full lol.

  2. Goes biking on multi use trails, gets annoyed it’s being used by other people. ???

We went to icebike in Iceland and they had you climb 1200 vertical feet to get to the downhill trails and it was a packed hiking trail on gravel, ash, and dust. It was littered with ruts from the water and was absolutely brutal trying to get up and around people.

My wife was so pissed at me, I should’ve stuck her on an e bike, she wasn’t used to fs and we had already had 8 rough days of backpacking and tent sleeping around the island.

I think it will be one of my biggest regrets not going all the way up, we were so close- there was a natural hot spring we could’ve soaked in and the single track was within spitting distance.. One day I’ll be back, sorry honey

Fuck that shit. No way I could do a big d city like that. KC is too big for my taste and people keep moving here. If that shit was a constant occurrence riding MTB here I would find something else to do lol

I really wish more mixed use trails had “bike” sections that ran parallel to “walking” sections without intersecting and with some small barrier.

I’m all for mixed use trails, and obviously no one is at fault here or misusing the trail, but it seems to be a big inconvenience for all parties involved when there isn’t some separation of bikes and pedestrians.

It’s hot so everyone ups their start time a little. If you go now, you could probably have it mostly to yourself but then it’s hot 🥵.

  7. For non locals – what’s the deal?

Shared use trail? MTB trail over run by hikers?

I’m so glad we have mostly separated dedicated hiking or MTB trails where I live.

This is hands down my favorite local trail, but it’s a pain to ride on weekends due to its popularity and ease of access. If you’re able to pedal further up towards Mt Wilson there tends to be less hikers at the higher elevations.

I’d also suggest a timber bell especially for these popular trails, most hikers in my experience are appreciative of them and tend to move over if they hear you coming from further away.

This is why I never hike on busy mountain bike trails and I never ride on busy hiking trails

  11. In LA, what’s the etiquette when you meet a hiker? Looks like hikers yield to bikers?

Bonus question, are there any bike shops in the LA area or OC with a good selection of helmets?
