Bike is 10 years old, the owner has obviously looked after it, but am I wrong thinking this is grossly overpriced?
Could I get a better bike by spending 2-2.5k on a Polygon T7 or something like that?

Yes bro it’s 10 years old at this point. I wouldn’t pay more than a grand for it
I mean idk how much it costs because that isn’t in the post but bike geo has come along ways in 10 years. I’d pass on this and go for something much newer…

bro you can buy a brand new Genius from Jenson for 1100 right now, with a few brief clicks of your mouse.
I would pay maybe 500-750 for that but probably not. it’s not the cost per se, it’s the opportunity cost of not getting a modern geo bike. I mean that will ride fine and be fun, but a newer one would be all that and more.
