Hi guys, I just finished my dream budget build. But it's a bit heavier than I expected.
The specs are:
Fuji SL 1.3 frameset.
Tiagra 4700 group mixed with 105 7000 brake calipers.
Novatec Jetfly wheelset, 32mm depth and weighted 1.5kg
Is there anything else I can do to reduce a bit of the weight or it's not that important. Any advice is welcomed!
Have a nice day π

No, especially not a rim brake one
Drop weight:
lighter tape
TPU tubes
lighter saddle
lighter wheels
lighter handlebars
lighter cages
for having tiagra and alu wheels i’d say it’s pretty good, and definetly good enough for almost anything.
The best thing to lower the weight without spending a ton right now is probably buying TPU tubes
My alu bike is right around there. There are full offroad gravel bikes that are almost a kilo lighter but they’re 6000β¬. For a budget build i don’t think you could ask for more. I didn’t even know you could have 32mm wheels with mainstream rim brakes.
For an older bike with middle of the road parts, I would say that’s solid.
Itβs shit. Throw it away
Go poop before your ride. Β
The bike is hella light given the build specs, and losing another 0.5-1kg isnβt going to be any significant difference.
I want this bike to add to my Fuji collection *drool*
Yes, I have this [https://www.decathlon.co.uk/p/road-bike-rcr-r-shimano-105-di2-12s-power-sensor-white/358047/c227m8912478](https://www.decathlon.co.uk/p/road-bike-rcr-r-shimano-105-di2-12s-power-sensor-white/358047/c227m8912478)
It’s hard to not get caught up in the weight aspect when you are building a bike. However, it makes very little difference overall and 8kg is very lightweight already. I built a bike right around that weight and then eventually bought my dream bike. The dream bike is 9.5 kg and it really doesn’t make a difference between the two. My fitness level is what makes the bike climb or ride faster, not the weight of the bike itself.
Cut the steerer tube
Thatβs plenty light unless youβre a pro racer. Are you racing with it or just casual and group rides? My gravel bike weighs like 12kg and I have tons of fun on it, granted Iβm not a serious rider.
I would say it’s not important, but you could save weight in a lot of parts, it’s just a matter of is it *worth it* to spend all the extra money just to save a little weight? That is more of a question for you than for us. (love the colorway btw!)
Looks great man
