My gravel bike with 50c tires wouldn’t do too much better than that in the sand if it makes you feel better. For sand you need some real width…like 3”+.

I regularly took hard pack gravel shortcuts when commuting on both my aluminium and carbon rim brake road bikes when I had 25c Marathon Plus. Those tyres could roll over anything. I put 35c Marathon Winters on my road ebike and took it up to some blue/red trails on my local mountain. That was fun. Closest thing I had to an off road tyre.
Maybe if you’re racing or live next to gravel trails it makes sense to have a gravel bike, but a road bike can certainly venture off course with the right tyre. It’s fun to do a little bit of exploring from time to time…

Honestly, sand like that is fat bike territory. Even 50mm gravel tires are “skinny” enough to sink into sand like that
