First road trip for my biggest buddy this summer, looping central CO – Denver, Frisco, CB, Black Canyon, Vail, RMNP, ending in Boulder. He's been riding singletrack since his strider days, currently on a 20" early rider I fixed up for his Christmas present. I've got Frisco Peninsula/bike park, CB lower/upper loop and Vail bike park planned, looking for additional suggestions. Smooth greens/blues are ideal, I don't mind a winch-up style ride (or even a shuttle) as we're pretty familiar with the tow strap. Won't make it as far west as Grand Junction/Fruita so those are out. Any ideas?

  1. At the risk of stating the obvious, many of the trails in summit county have a lot of vert and/or technical sections. There are some great paved paths that will still feel like a big adventure if you’re a little kid.

For example if someone drives you to copper, you can take the paved bike trail back to Frisco. It averages 1-2% decline, very little pedaling required, and it feels like serious Big Kid shit because it’s like 6 miles of riding, with incredible views the whole way. Also some flat, pretty paths between the marina and the dam.

Golden has some fun spots that I’ve ridden with my daughter when she was that age – north table mountain, which connects to a small bike park and New Terrain Brewing. Rutabaga at Lair o the Bear is really fun too.
