  1. Another quite remarkable cycling adventure; thanks for taking us along!
Regarding the "did I cheat?" question well, only you can answer that because only you are answerable to it, but my penny halfpenny's worth is that you most certainly didn't.

  2. Brilliant as always, I have driven the Harz mountains, you can really can notice the difference between East and West Germany in the architecture, roads and such. Envious of being able to travel easily between cultures and you have demonstrated that with your many rides. Looking forward to your next adventure

  3. A long time subscriber to this channel, I read a novel Oblamov passed on by my sister who studied the Russian language. I happened to work with an Immigrant who was a military doctor during their invasion of Afganistan. I mentioned the book to him and he explained, the book was incorporated into Russian lexicon. Basically it means, : don't be Oblamoveskya. Don't be that Aristocrat who lost a vast fortune and his health through laziness and excess. Funny how the world works. You can learn quite a bit if you just listen because nobody knows as much as everybody! Great video. Pass it on. Oddly, the Russian navy docked a ship in San Francisco bay 1812 war, hiding from the British navy. Locals supplied the crew and ship during that time because there was basically no naval defence for that city. England had just burned the White house. His story checks out! Strange world indeed!

  4. What a stunner of a ride and the most brilliant theme/concept for a ride. This video raised the bar yet again, thanks for taking us along. Wonderful and inspiring. Just what was needed on a Monday morning

  5. What a ride!! Glad you weren't broken by the mountain.
From the look of that detour you earned that train ride, it's not like you made a pact with the devil.

Long live those who hold on bravely!๐Ÿ˜ˆ …and you held on bravely! It's amazing that you managed that and it's a shame I couldn't have known when you would climb the mountain. I would have given you cake and a Coke. The Brocken is within sight, not really far away and nowhere near as far away as it seemed to you that day! We had to read Faust at school and it certainly wasn't fun, but today it's not so bad and you made the best of it ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿคฉ๐Ÿ‘. By the way, the Brocken has a worse reputation than it shows. Yes, there are many days of fog, but that doesn't mean that it hides all day. When I leave the road here in Braunschweig, I can often see it and it is often unmistakable behind the hazy air and yet looks so close. I used to live in Goslar for a while and often rode up the Brocken as an after-work ride. When the last Brockenbahn has long since descended into the valley, the Brocken becomes truly magnificent. After all your epic rides, this one was the logical next, and I was really pleased that you rode through the enchanted forests, which once again had a tough time, as the drought had left the forest vulnerable to the bark beetles. Best wishes and safe travels!

  7. If you are ever looking to bicycle in Greece. I think you might enjoy using Henry Miller's Colossus of Maroussi, for inspiration, and tie in. Cheers.

  8. Another fabulous cycling adventure – thinking the missing ferry may have crossed the river styx, the diversion the penance of purgatory !!!

  9. Amazing. You're a legend. Stunning route. Thanks taking us along and for the inspiration to ride. And read. And then ride to where you read about.

  10. What a ride, and something to add to my reading list. There's no shame in taking a little train ride when fate throws a spanner in the works. Overall it's a small percentage. Ride on my friend โœŠ

  11. Wonderful video, commentary, scenery > as ever. Well, if you like 1000k rides over on the Continent, next year I'm running Borders of Belgium, a 1000k audax around about August 2026. A shameless plug, I know. Now, I just need to tempt you with a historical figure or book recommendation. ๐Ÿ˜‰ or beer/cheese at Chimey perhaps? The 1000 Castles? or 37 Grand Abbeys?

  12. Another amazing adventure my friend. Hope you manage to attain the Brevet Stamp from the missed Control.
    Looking forward to your next one
