Near three years ago I bought this Canyon VCLS seatpost that I've since used extensively without issues.

During my last ride however, it kept twisting and falling so I went to my LBS. He said that my carbon frame and clamp are fine and the issue is the diameter of the seatpost, it ranges between 26.8-27mm so it's kind of floating inside the frame and the clamp force can't keep it stable anymore, even with the carbon paste.

He told me it probably was slightly defective from the beginning and through use it lost a bit more. Problem is the 2-year warranty is over and although I plan to contact Canyon, I'm not optimistic about it.

Is there anything I can do to salvage the seatpost? Can I use some DIY shim like from an aluminum can? Another idea is trying it on my brother's bike, maybe it still works there…

I wouldn’t expect much from Canyon if the warranty period is over. It sucks but I‘d say time for a new seatpost. But yeah go ahead and test it with another bike.

Contact Canyon and ask for the “VCLS 2.0 tolerance shim”. It’s a small carbon shim that goes between the 2 leafs on the seat post and will stop the issue. I appreciate my description is terrible but Canyon will be able to send you one with instructions better than I can describe.
