  1. The rear basket gang is unfortunately scattered all over the place after forgetting we had a rear basket and doing a sick jump off a curb.

I don’t always keep a rear basket on my bike, but when I do I use it to haul burritos.

My first bike touring was on short notice by an invitation by a friend. I didn’t know the bike touring world existed. My only bike was a light weight carbon fiber Bianchi that was the biggest model available – 61 – but still too small for me. I knew about sprinting. I didn’t know about panniers.

I found a basket – the kind on housewives’ bikes in Japan, and a platform I could attach to my seat post, and I loaded it up and joined the wonderful world of bike touring.

After suffering through multiple broken spokes and a death wobble at around 65-70km/hr when flying down one of Japan’s largest mountain passes, I decided it was time for some research. I discovered touring bikes, the concept of N+1, and how to find larger and sturdier bikes and wheels.

But I still love baskets! Have a Wald on the front of my main touring/errands bike.
