The night announces itself loudly: thunder, lightning, wind and rain testing both tent and nerves. Morning, however, chooses kindness. Dry sleeping bags, quiet victory, and a gravel path that feels like a farewell gift, rolling out smoothly as if trying to convince us to stay just a little longer.
After more than two hundred kilometres, the Rhine finally slips out of sight. Its steady presence fades, and new terrain takes over. Change arrives the way it always does: first in tired legs, then in hunger. A bakery appears at exactly the right moment. Proof that timing is a form of magic.
From there, the day unfolds in contrasts. Straight gravel roads lined with warning signs. Heat that refuses to let go. Sprinklers in a city park, ridden through with childish delight, and a single stubborn drop of water that decides to stay on the lens far longer than invited.
We balance beers with grilled vegetables, take shelter from a brief rain shower under parasols, and then set off once more. Naturally, the search for our B&B involves one final, unreasonably steep climb. The kind that only appears when you’re convinced the day is already done. Legs complain, lungs negotiate, but the view makes it worthwhile.

belle étape avec beaucoup d'humour 👌
Really wonderful! Just one remark: I suppose you spent the night in Hirschhorn, not Hirschkopf.
