I am considering buying my first road bike and am curious what you guys think of it.

It is a Focus Izalco Race (2018) in size XL for €950.

According to what I could find online, the XL should fit up to approximately ±195 cm. I am 198 cm myself, so just above that. The previous owner was 190 cm.

Specs according to the advertisement:

– Focus Izalco Race 2018 carbon frame

– Size XL

– Shimano 105 groupset

– Reynolds Strike tubeless wheelset (deep carbon)

– Rim brakes

I actually just want to start road cycling, so this would be my first road bike. Do you think the size will still work for someone of 198 cm, or will it likely be too small? And does €800 seem like a good deal with these specs?

I am curious to hear your opinion.

  1. I can’t really comment on the size as I am much shorter, but be aware that this is a race bike with an agressive geometry. It will be very fast but for a first road bike it might be a bit harsh. Price seems ok. The prices of rim brakes bikes have been dropping a lot on the used market but they still represent a lot of speed for the money, plus they are generally light and easy to maintain.
