Hi guys,
The other day I ran into a motorcycle that swerved in front of me. Nothing bodily besides a scratch on the finger – it was a clean crash, like 10-15kph, and I didn’t even fall. Can’t say the same for my bike – the fork broke clean halfway.
Now, I’m not sure if I would have any grounds for warranty. On one hand it looks suspicious that a properly made carbon fork would snap with this kind of impact, on the other hand it was a crash and there’s no way to prove it’s a defect.
Bike was bought 2 months before. I’ve contacted my local Giant and it could be months before they get a new part shipped. I’m tempted to just call it bad luck, get a new fork for 100-150$, and keep using the bike.
How does this case look to you? Is it even worth it to fight for this?
Thanks guys.

Why isn’t the motorcyclist’s insurance buying you a new bike?
Crash replacement pricing is the best you can hope for regardless of how new the bike is.
You got a unicycle now 👍
That’s not a material or workmanship defect. You hit an object. That’s on you, get crash replacement and move on.
1) happy you’re fine that’s what matters most
2) Is it just the fork that’s gone to heaven? The rest doesn’t *look* fucked.
3) If the motorcyclist ran off after then you could make a claim on a property policy you have but then you have to deal with having made a property claim and unless your deductible is 0 it’s not worth it unless you move to replace the whole bike.
4) Make the warranty claim who cares maybe you’ll get lucky and the bike gods will show you some favor.
Hmmm that’s quite shitty, glad you’re ok! If the cost isn’t too much of a financial concern I’d just take the route that’s quickest. If that was buying a new one, I’d send giant an email saying what happened, somehow thank them that the rest of the bike held up and kept you safe. Maybe they give you something nice for your troubles and because you fixed it out of pocket for ease and time.
You can claim against the motorcyclist insurance if you think you have a case. But warranty? Good luck.
Well I think you have a concussion and you’re entitled to some fucking motorcycle insurance money. That entire bike might be totaled might as well make insurance replace it like new if you can.
Let me ask you this, and you need to think about this question any time you think ‘maybe I should warranty this?’; How is this a manufacturing error or defect?
In this case, you crashed into a motorcycle. Fork was fine before that. No warranty.
JRA.
Have a tcr and fork cracked. Could have been kit fault for over tightening but it cracked when I was doing a hard effort going uphill and pulling up on the bars. Giant denied warranty and I purchased a replacement for ~200
Get the frame inspected by a professional before replacing the fork, this type of crash can also damage the head tube area, even a slight bend on the top or diagonal tube can lead to a frame failure.
