Any bike I don’t want stolen lives inside my own home/garage.. never accessible storage. I don’t think the lock you pick really makes much of a difference.

  2. Don’t kryptonite have some sort of guarantee that if there lock is cut they replace your bike ? Maybe 🤔

ngl its always about deterrence, any lock can be cut. i have a chain lock and its goal is to make my bike not worth it, hopefully

  4. Out of the bike storage room in your building?! That sucks. Sorry for your loss.

An angle grinder, or even hand tools and enough time, can defeat any bike lock.

Sorry about your bike. Bike thieves fucking suck.

I always keep my bike in my house with me. “Bikes are indoor pets.” However, I’ve been robbed and they took the bike, and everything else along with it. That’s when I learned about “category limits” on insurance. F*&k thieves.

  7. Thick chains are still good. If a thief can cut through this chain, they could have cut through a U-lock too.

  8. Yeah, unfortunately I’ve heard of bike thefts in most bike rooms. Mine is a creepy dark room in the basement with the worst bike racks. I have three bikes and not enough space, but still have them in my condo because they are not secure down there. Sorry it happened to you. The used market heavily favors buyers right now. You can probably haggle and get a good deal if you’re OK getting used.

Those links are 7mm I think. The Kryptonite NY Fahgettaboudit are 14mm, but personally if I don’t have my bike in my house or in my sight I’m going with something more like a tungsten or otherwise reinforced motorcycle lock. Abus Granit Super Extreme 2500 or Litelok x3 or Hiplock D1000 or whatever makes the angle grinder motor smoke.

It’s worth checking to see if there’s a bike theft database in your area. It can help increase your chances of recovering your bike. Also, if others had stuff stolen too, complain like crazy because either the complex was negligent with their access or it was an inside job.

  11. Don’t leave your bike unattended for hours without checking on it. Go out and check every hour if you must.. never had a bike stolen. Have used both u locks and chain. Have never had a problem with either. Have used the big brands and cheap a$$ ones . Just depends on where you lock and how you lock and how often you go to see.

  12. Locks are like helmets: get the best one you can afford, and then use what you have. The most determined thief will always beat the strongest lock. We do the best we can and put the rest in the universe’s hands.
