You can cycle from Finsbury Park in north London to Farringdon in central London entirely on quiet streets and protected cycle lanes.

The route is 6.4km long (4 miles) and makes use of Cycleway 38, the Highbury LTN and protected lanes on Liverpool Road.

  1. I usually use thornhill road, and barnsbury road – slightly more direct and slightly busier (although it varies), but it avoids tolpuddle street which im really not a fan of cycling on. Depends on what you're comfortable with basically.

  2. Thats weird seeing a Northampton Road in london……. I live in Northamptonshire πŸ˜ƒ

10:24 mins that was one of my walks last year, Clerkenwell, the Horseshoe pub where Gangs of London tv series was filmed.
(wasn't none of those roadworks when i was there….. what a pain)

  3. Wish we had more modal filters and safe cycle routes where I live up in Herts. It’s a joke that Herts CC and Hertsmere keep dragging their feet on this. I cycled to Watford today and it was chaos around the town centre – cars everywhere. Not helped by Bushey Hall road being closed and drivers coming from Water lane insisting on driving into the tunnel and stopping through traffic coming the other way.

Car dependency is the biggest issue.

  4. Great routeπŸ‘ Very direct.
Those Thames Water works on Finsbury Park Rd!! A regular on your channel for a good while! 😁

  5. Thanks, it's really interesting to see a safer variation on a route I do pretty often. I haven't tried the wiggles through Clerkenwell but I'll give them a go – I'd usually go through to Farringdon Road higher up, at Bowling Green Lane (where it isn't protected) or use St John St, which is pretty quiet.

By the the way, I clicked the Komoot link this time and found that although I can see the route without making an account, I can't download the gpx file. I don't know if you realise this. Or have I missed something?

  6. Great video mate. Love seen the cycling track I use on my way to work. Crossing Clerkenwell road to get to Turnmill street can be a nightmare as motor vehicles come in every direction. I tend to dismount and use the pedestrian crossing.

  7. Great video today. The route did not look busy at all which is great. Did I miss you saying what day of the week it was – looked like a Sunday. Thanks for the video.

  8. My commuting route! Thanks for another great video. The alternative route that takes you off Liverpool Road is definitely helpful in avoiding two sets of lights where you can end up waiting quite a long time.

  9. A very handy route, thank you for making this video! Definitely agree cycling the quiet routes off the main roads is a great way to discover some of London's most enigmatic architecture… It's typically a great way to experience areas from a different perspective and also allows you to feel a lot more familiar with places where you might otherwise not feel like a 'local'. I think its something that a lot of riders on quiet routes really appreciate because they usually have the best scenery!

  10. Great routes through North London. An area I'm not really familiar with, but with videos like these, that can all change. Top stuff !

  11. Excellent video and route! Amwell St and onwards into central is one of my favourite stretches of the journey when riding in from north London. Amen to what you said about the architecture in those beautiful Islington squares.

  12. The frankly dangerous Police parking is so annoying as there is nothing you can do about it. They really need to be setting a better example.

  13. I cycled to a recent match at the Emirates on the promise there is a stadium cycle park on the Drayton Park side but despite asking several times I couldn't find it if indeed it exists. So I locked bike to a lamppost.
After the match there is no chance of cycling until you get beyond the crowds if you go towards Holloway Road.

  14. the other problem with the liverpool road cycle lanes is the awful state of the surface. I don't know what Islington uses for surfacing the roads, but potholes billow out this gravel which ends up in the cycle way and has led to a couple punctures.

  15. Different topic but sad to see Southwark council getting cold feet pre-election and canning one of the LTNs designed to create a quieter route to south of Peckham Rye Park. Its not too bad at the moment so not the end of the world but concerning if they go on an axe more of their plans
