It was a Barnes 1-2 in Stockton-on-Tees as Hannah beat younger sister Alice on the line to claim her first ever national road championships road race title.
Alice had to settle for second place – which also earned her the under-23 women’s title for the second year in a row.

The value of professional sport is being undermined by drug scandals & I have lost interest. Whenever an athlete is caught they believe that bullying lawyers will get them off. Maria Sharapova is a case in question & I'm hugely disappointed in the role played by British Cycling in the missed drugs tests by Armitstead. Armitstead has always expressed draconian views on alleged drug cheats but has a more relaxed view of her own transgressions.
