I just gave away a trek alpha to someone wanting to get into cycling. If I’m honest it’s a proper ‘middle’ bike.
Light and nice Alu frame with reliable parts. It’s pretty much peak price to performance. After this it’s minor gains for lots of cash in my mind.

I had a variant of this for a while. That’s a good deal. I would flush and lube the shifter internals since they’re at the age they might need it, and if you’re comfortable dealing with headsets, I would remove the fork, remove the headset bearings from the frame, and re-grease their contact areas with the frame so they don’t corrode in place.
