I love a train ride so a gravel ride with one in is a double win for me. Yesterday we went out with one of our bike friends and took the train from Manchester to Kirkham (near Blackpool on the west coast) and then took all day to cycle home. The weather was grey clouds but no rain and the route consisted of canal towpath, bike lanes, some country roads, bridalways, footpaths and some very rough and muddy farm roads. It was 100km and 1100m of elevation. It was a pretty good route with some excellent trails but there was one unrideable section of muddy riverbank path that fell into the river, there is always another way around though. We finished with a quick drink at Media City (where the BBC is) before it got dark as we didn't all have light with us.
