Firstly I’d like to note I’m new to all this and If better images are needed I can provide them, I recently purchased a used set of rims and tires for my indoor roller trainer, neither have arrived but I wanted to practice removing my rear tire for when the time comes. I followed to basic steps, lower to smallest gear, turn off derailleur, remove thru axle, only thing left is to push derailleur forward lift and remove which is where i’m having my issue.

When I lift the wheel the cassette bumps into the derailleur and it almost seems as if the derailleur is in the way of lifting the wheel out, I’m just hoping the derailleur isn’t bent inwards over the cassette and impeding it from coming out. Again i’m new to all this so rather than pull and pry at it I wanted to see if there’s any glaring issues before i continue, maybe i’m not doing something correctly but it wasn’t an issue installing it on arrival last summer.

(Side note can I take the dork disc off? It drives me up the wall.)

  1. It’s normal for the derailleur to be in the way a bit. You have to push it toward the rear of the bike as you pull the wheel up. And yes, get that dork disc off of there, just make sure your derailleur is set up correctly as to not shift past your biggest gear into the spokes. That’s what the disc is protecting from. Make sure to keep that in mind during future adjustments of the L limiting screw.

Do the same thing when reinstalling the wheel, just watch the brake rotor so it doesn’t scratch your frame as you go in.
