I’m looking to upgrade the tires on a bike I have inherited and I’m wondering what the actual tire clearance is for the bike a Trek Madone 5.9. I would like to fit wider tires.

Here are the specs for the current setup:

  • Frame: 52 cm, H2 geometry.
  • Groupset: Shimano Dura-Ace 7900 (10-speed mechanical).
  • Brakes: Standard rim brakes (7900).
  • Wheels: DT Swiss RR1450 Tricon
  • Tires today: Veloflex 25mm

I have included some pictures.
I'm a noob so please be kind 😅

  1. I don’t know. The thing is made for 25mm is not it? A 26 from Specialized might fit into it. But a 28? Maybe… But only maybe.

Thats one of the downsides with older bikes. They were made for 23 and 25mm tires. 28mm is usually the max, and even that is a bit of a tight fit.

  3. I had this exact black and white version… I was able to fit 25mm in the end before i sold it
